I bring to you 5 things that are flashbeagle for the rest of 2009.

R.Kelly is releasing a memoir, guys.
Two top-10 recruits in one week. Starting really soon, it’s going to be fun again to be a Florida State football fan.
The fact that a close friend admitted that I had read more books in the last 2 months than he has the entire year.
The fact that this guy is the Best Rapper Alive. You read that right. Start from the beginning if dabble in hip-hop from time to time, start at 2:30 if you LISTEN to hip-hop. (You’ll probably need to look some of the references up. I know I did.) WOOOOOOOOW.
Hopefully getting a job soon. That one doesn’t need any more depth, does it?

5 things that are NOT flashbeagle right now.

The fact that a close friend admitted that I had read more books in the last 2 months than he has the entire year.
Chicago winter.
Not being able to take girls out right now. I’ve become a big fan of dating recently.
Realizing that I will never be as relevant to culture as Ed Lover is.
The whole New Year’s hubbub. You know what I’m talking about.

The whole

Pay an arm and a leg at some bar you usually wouldn’t even have to pay cover to get into.
Wait in line to get a drink. Realize everyone in the bar is in a relationship. Order an extra whiskey.
Make small talk with your buddies college roommate/frat brother/friend met during a semester abroad, who you will subsequently friend on Facebook and never speak to again.
Avoid the one couple you know is all-but-guaranteed to get into a fight on some drunk shit because they hate each other but don’t have the balls to break up.
BTW,the girl member of that couple goes into cry mode and so all the girls disappear for 15 minutes in the bathroom to get her shit together.
Oh, and the guy proceeds to act an ass, possibly try and start a fight, and then do the whole “I’m out of here, so let me make a dramatic-ass exit” deal.
One of your friends flakes out at 10:45 to go get laid.
Wherever you are, you watch the ball drop and text your east coast friends. (Or, you text “hello from 20__!!!!” to your midwest/west coast buddies if you’re on the east coast.) The texts are usually not as hilarious the next day.
Someone who has never smoked marijuana in their life will have picked tonight to give it a try. It doesn’t end well.
“Don’t stop till you get enough” will come on. You will take a second to realize that MICHAEL FUCKING JACKSON is no longer alive.
You, being a good friend and tending to the madness, miss out on the bottles of Korbel the poor, poor bar-backs pass out at 11:45 and ring in the New Year with a swig of warm Amstel and a peck on the cheek from your girl bestie, who then proceeds to re-invent what it means to suck face with that random ass guy she’s seeing now. I think his name was Colin?

Sound familiar? If so, say fuck it and do something else. Also, if you’re going to be in Atlanta or Orlando/Tampa/Jacksonville, let me know what that “something else” is. Let’s hang out.

Is it worse to be unemployed, to lose one’s sense of self-worth, to constantly live in fear, to have no money and rely on the kindness of others, to amass endless amounts of free time that no longer are pleasurable as the weather gets colder, to gain weight by consuming food to fill the void that work and its sense of purpose once provided you?

Is it worse to be underemployed, to work one job that barely covers a week of living expenses, to work many jobs but still lack health insurance and a somewhat balanced schedule, to jump from menial occupation to menial occupation in the hope that a temp-to-hire position will actually pan out even though you know better?

Is it worse to be over-employed, to have a full-time job and still struggle, to collect part-time gigs with stipends that may or may not arrive sometime soon in the mail to make up for the expenses that inevitably arise and are out of your control, to work so much that you take pills on a daily basis to fall asleep, to take up vices to fill that void that arose when you realized your life is your work

My father is mostly responsible for my weird musical tastes. He was the only guy in the family to listen to Yes, Genesis, Fleetwood Mac, Zeppelin, etc. in addition to the Ohio Players, Commodores, The O’Jays, etc.
